Zhejiang Conservatory of Music 2026 International Summer School

1. About Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (ZJCM)

Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (ZJCM) is a prominent publicly-funded institution approved by China's Ministry of Education. Located in Hangzhou, ZJCM provides comprehensive education in music and arts to talented students from China and around the world. Our programs span composition, conducting, vocal and instrumental performance, music technology, drama studies, and dance.

ZJCM's scenic 100-acre campus is home to 18 academic departments, 4 professional performing ensembles, and over 3,500 students. We are committed to artistic excellence through a strong faculty of more than 770 educators and artists, and state-of-the-art facilities that include 7 performance venues (theatres and concert halls), 104 rehearsal halls, 935 piano rooms, and 8 professional recording studios. ZJCM actively engages with the global community, building partnerships with conservatories, arts organizations, and cultural institutions worldwide.

2. 2026 Summer School Program

A. The 3rd Silkroad’s Global Musicians Workshop

Co-hosted by ZJCM and the Silkroad Ensemble (founded by Yo-Yo Ma), this prestigious 7-day intensive workshop will be held at our campus from July 26 to August 1, 2026. Designed for musicians aged 16 and above, it features masterclasses with Grammy-winning artists such as Wu Man, cross-cultural band collaborations, and immersive improvisation sessions. The program culminates in live concerts, offering a unique platform for deep artistic exchange within a global musical community.

B. U.S.-China Music & Cultural Exchange Festival

This immersive program, based at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music in June 2026 (tentative), is designed as a cultural gateway for international students and young artists. It uniquely combines hands-on musical workshops in traditional Chinese arts—including folk instruments (e.g., Guzheng, Pipa), opera, and dance led by renowned professors—with guided cultural field studies in and around Hangzhou. Participants will not only learn artistic skills on campus but also visit local museums, historic sites like West Lake, and experience the living cultural context. Through this blend of practice and exploration, the program fosters a deep, practical understanding of Chinese music and culture, promoting meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and friendship.
