Full professor, University of Missouri-Columbia 主讲人/Speaker: Dr. Haojing Yan is a Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He obtained his B.S. from Nanjing University in 1992 and his PhD from Arizona State University in 2003. He did postdoctoral research at the Spitzer Science Center, JPL/Caltech (2003-2006), the Carnegie Observatories (2006-2008), and the Center for Cosmology and AsrtroParticle Physics (CCAPP) at the Ohio State University (2008-2011). He joined the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2011 and has been there since. Dr. Yan’s research interests fall in the broad field of galaxy formation and evolution, with the specialties of studying galaxies in the early universe, dusty galaxies, large-scale structures, and time-domain astrophysics. 摘要/Abstract: I will discuss two of our recent discoveries made using the public data from JWST. The first is on variable extragalactic sources, which, by common wisdom, should be Type 1 AGNs. However, our discovery presents a more subtle picture. The second is on point-like sources that have narrow permitted lines, which we call “platypus galaxies” because they have blended properties of quasars and extreme starbursts. They likely represent a new population of galaxies that deserve further investigations. 联系人/Contact: School of Science, Yannan Yu, Email: yuyannan@westlake.edu.cn | ||||
